The 2026 annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) has been determined for OSERS members as authorized by Nebraska Statutes. COLAs are calculated using the consumer price index - capped at a maximum of 1.5% or 1.0% depending on plan provisions.
CPI Increase: 3.4%
Tier 1 COLA: 1.5%
Tier 2/3/4 COLA: 1.0%
For the year ending June 30, 2026, the CPI increase was 3.4%. As a result, eligible OSERS Tier 1 members received an increase of 1.5% and Tier 2/3/4 members received an increase of 1%.
NPERS issued correspondence to all affected retirees at the end of September. This letter explained the dollar amount increase for each retiree. September retirement benefits, paid at the end of the month, included the COLA adjustment.

OSERS Medical COLA
A medical COLA will be paid to members who have been receiving a retirement benefit for at least ten years as of September 1. This COLA is paid along with the regular COLA payment in September each year.
- 20 or more years of service: Your initial medical COLA payment will be $100 per month.
- Less than 20 years of service: Your initial medical COLA payment will be determined using the formula below.
Regardless of your years of service, the medical COLA will increase by $10 each subsequent year. The medical COLA is capped at $250 per month.
Please note: The medical COLA ends upon the member's death and does not continue to a surviving beneficiary, regardless of the retirement benefit option selected.
